Says Dane Reynolds of Quiksilver: “Nah, we’re still friends!” Photo: WSL

A few hours ago, a claim was brought to our attention from the legal news site Law360.com written by Joy Godoy with the following headline, “Quiksilver Fights Pro Surfer’s $3.6M Claim In Ch. 11.”
The article states the following:
Joseph Eisenberg, a lawyer at Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP, filed claims in the bankruptcy on behalf of Reynolds and nine other professional athletes.
Quiksilver hasn’t yet contested those other claims directly, but told the court Reynolds’ claim is barred by the termination deal.
According to Reuters and Law 360:
The deal set a deadline for Quiksilver to remove certain promotional material featuring Reynolds from the internet, and tweaked the standard non-disparagement clause to one mutually barring intentional slander, according to the company’s filing.
We reached out to Dane for comment before printing, but received no response.
Just a few minutes ago, Dane emailed back the following:
hey zach, there is no lawsuit with quik, total creation from someone somewhere…
Blair Marlin, Dane’s manager and good friend, also told Stab the following:
“A termination agreement was signed several months ago between both parties and the bankruptcy court is just now getting to it. Once the court approves the document, the claim will be dismissed.”
So, it looks there isn’t a lawsuit with Quik. At least not coming from Dane Reynolds – despite the lingering claims that exist and have not yet been publicly resolved. That said, a $7.6M claim still lingers among 26 employees laid off during the bankruptcy. Unless, of course, that one was completely made up too.
We’ll keep you posted if and when new information becomes available.
